  • An allergy is a rapid type of hypersensitivity reaction: the immune system overreacts to something in the environment that is actually completely harmless.
  • An allergy diagnosis can be based on 2 values: a positive allergy test and a health complaint that correlates with it. First, there should be a health concern and testing should always be done for those allergens that could be associated with this health complaint.
  • How allergic a person is at the moment depends on both their health and the current environmental situation. For example, this year the amount of birch pollen in the air has been significantly lower than last year, and allergy sufferers have it easier as a result.
  • Allergies can occur at any age and can either increase or decrease over the course of a lifetime.
  • Allergy can be tested using skin prick tests and blood tests. However, a positive test result does not mean that you have an allergy. A person can be sensitive: the body produces antibodies to the allergen, but no actual reaction occurs. This means that the body has made a mistake and is producing antibodies, but it realizes that it has made this mistake and does not follow this reaction. It is as if it corrects this mistake before an allergic reaction occurs.
