" What would you think if I told you there was a miracle drug that would increase your work productivity, make you more creative, improve your memory, help prevent dementia, make you feel better, help you maintain your weight, and make you take fewer risks and do stupid things? It's a biological preparation and it's completely free.
As you probably guessed from the title, the panacea for this is sleep. Hundreds of scientific studies have convincingly shown that sleep is the basis of good health, well-being and mental fitness. So it is interesting, sad and ironic that humans are the only species that – quite voluntarily and deliberately – reduces their sleep intake. It is as if we invest in our health: we go to the gym, eat organic food, drink smoothies, but at the same time we wake up in the morning with an alarm clock, drink several cups of coffee or an energy drink throughout the day and life moves on. We hear people say that sleep is for the weak. In fact, sleep is for the wise.
